They say marriage is made in heaven. It sounds true at least for dream couple Surya and Jyothika. They tied the knot recently, went abroad on honeymoon and they are back to the place that they call home. Their film ‘Sillunu Oru Kadhal’ was released a few days before their wedding. Jo has decided to quit films but Surya is set to get back to films after spending quality time with his other half – Jo. Now, he spills the beans about his films, his bride Jo and much more.
Excerpts from the interview:
How do you feel at the moment?
I am extremely happy and cool. I had a great time with Jo in Europe. I am ready for work now.
And how is Jo getting on as a homemaker?
Jo is the best thing that has happened to me and I am the happiest man in the world. She is going to give up acting for time being.
Is it true that the response on your much-hyped film ‘Sillunu Oru Kadhal’ is bad?
No, it’s not true. In fact, it did very well in A centres and overseas. It is set to break ‘Ghajini’ record at Sathyam theatre in Chennai. It has received great response in Coimbatore and people abroad are enjoying it.
So, you are saying it is a hit, isn’t it?
I am sure the distributors will not incur lose from the film. The fact is it is doing even better in cities than in B and C stations.
Critics came down heavily on the character played by Bhoomika, arguing that it is the weakest point of the film. What do you say?
It’s not so. The truth is, Aishwarya character is one of the biggest strengths in the film. Bhoomika had even told that it is one of her career best roles. She looks ravishing in the campus scenes and people just can’t ignore her.
So what may be the reason for Asin and Trisha to reject the role?
I don’t want to bring back the past. Asin agreed to play the role initially and a huge advance was also paid. But she turned around, asking the director to re-write the script. I am sure self-respecting director will not do that. I know Aishwarya character is much better than what Asin did in ‘Majaa’ or ‘Sivakasi’. Past is past. Anyway, Bhoomika has done the role beautifully.
Coming back to your wedding, why didn’t you invite Vikram?
We did not intentionally ignore him. We even did not invite Vijaykanth whom I respect a lot. In fact, Vikram and his family never bothered to turn up for my sister’s wedding though I invited them personally. You know, they didn’t even call up.
But Vikram gave you equal footage in his film ‘Pitamagan’. Isn’t it so?
It was my guru Bala, the director of the film who insisted that my role should remain as it is. I awe it all to Bala and no one else.
Tell us about your forthcoming films.
I am going to do Gautham’s new thriller with Deepika Padgonkar and Vishnuvardhan’s ‘Sarvam’ with a newcomer simultaneously.
