They say pen is mightier than the sword but there are things that pen can’t penetrate. Director cum actor Sarath seems to know the perfect way to defeat the enemies. He combines both pen and muscle power to overcome the evil forces in his latest film ‘Thalaimagan’.
The film has an old theme wherein the good fights the evil and the good coming out victorious after lots of hardships. The storyline is old yet the director has used spunky action, simple comedy and cool romance, giving new life to the film. He is sure of himself and has edged out a clean entertainer.
Fearless Ayya (Vijaykumar) controls a publication house and Dheeran (Sarath Kumar) is another fearless scribe. Dheeran is a writer as well as a doer. He makes good use of his hands when pen doesn’t work. His colleague Erimalai (Vadivelu) is on the verge of getting into trouble. Meghala (Nayantra) is an enterprising intern, an apple to Dheeran’s eyes.
Dheeran bumps into evil forces of corrupt Minister Shanmuga Sundaram (Mukesh Tiwari) and venal cop Alanakaram (Seema Biswas). He frustrates all their evil plans. He hammers up the new water bottling plant of an MNC, as it would be harmful to the villagers. He also exposes the people behind the project. Now, Shanmugasundaram is all out to do away with Dheeran but he has new plans to counter the attack. He brings out the evil plans of Shanmugha Sundaram and Alankaram for all to see with full evidence. But how does he get the evidence? Action-packed climax awaits you.
Sarath Kumar is the heart and soul of the film and has shouldered the burden quite convincingly. He looks energetic in the action sequences and has delivered what is expected of him. The issue of water bottling plants used in the film is contextual. Nayantara looks beautiful and glamorous in the film and Vedivelu has achieved in his job of bringing the house down. Mukesh Tiwari and Seema Biswas too have done justice to their roles. The technical aspect of the film is fine and so too is Srikanth Deva’s music.
